Bengaluru: In order to ensure that the city will not face any bed shortage to treat COVID 19 patients in the event of an outbreak, the BBMP has decided to add 20,000 new beds by setting up temporary hospitals. These hospitals will come up in the sports auditoriums and choultries.
As of today, 1,100 beds are ready in the government-run four hospitals across the city. It may be recalled that the first COVID case was reported in the city on March 8. Since then there has been no reprieve from the number of cases.
BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar said that the work on setting up these temporary healthcare centers would start soon.
According to sources, the BBMP plans to convert the Kanteerava Indoor Stadium, the Tripura Vasini auditorium in Palace grounds, the International exhibition center on Tumakuru road and in Whitefiled as temporary hospitals.
“In the next couple of weeks, these temporary hospitals will be available for the patient care,” he said.
