Bengaluru: BBMP commissioner BH Anil Kumar has issued an order making it mandatory for all name boards within the city to be written in the Kannada language from November 1 onwards. The commissioner’s order also states that if the name boards do not feature signs in Kannada at the top, then the trading licenses of such businesses or establishments will be cancelled.
The new order comes in the midst of criticism against newly-elected Bengaluru Mayor Gautham Jain as his mother tongue is Hindi.
This new order is applicable for all establishments including governmental, semi-governmental, and private firms.
