Bengaluru: BBMP Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta here on Tuesday May 11 has admitted that the shortage of vaccine has hindered the ongoing vaccination drive.

Stating that Bengaluru Urban receives between 40,000 to 50,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines per day, he explained that it was unfortunately not enough as when distributed to all the wards in the city, it comes up to 200 doses per ward. At least, 400 to 500 dosages per day are required per ward to meet the demand, he stressed.

The shortfall in vaccines has restricted the drive to vaccinate age group 18 and 44 years only to the pre-registered beneficiaries at government centres and there is a serious shortage with BBMP’s hand tied down, Gupta said and added that this is also one of the reasons that BBMP is concentrating on the second dose jabbing to those above 45 years.
