Bengaluru: Amid Covid-19 pandemic, the BBMP has achieved 51% of its annual property tax collection target in just four months. This comes as a big relief for the corporation which is under immense pressure to foot the Covid-19 related bills.
According to the BBMP sources,in the financial year 2020-21, BBMP has set a target of collecting Rs.3,500 cr in the form of property tax. Out of this Rs.1,776 cr has been collected by July 31.
“Out of Rs.1,776 cr collected, Rs 902 cr are collected online,” added authorities.
According to the BBMP data, the highest tax collected is from Mahadevapura ward, at Rs 462 cr. Dasarahalli recorded lowest tax collection with just Rs.39 cr.
“Dasarahalli is a low market area in the city. A huge surge of the Covid-19 cases were reported from here beside this area is also known for garment and other low skilled factories,” explained sources in the BBMP.
Now officials are confident that by the end of this financial year they can reach the target or even exceed as the economic activities across the city is getting re-started.
