Bengaluru: Fearing a blow to their image at the national level, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) directed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to drop the proposal of handing over 3,677 acres of land to the Jindal group in Ballari.

The party’s decision was communicated to the CM on Monday, June 10 evening. AICC Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal asked the CM to drop the proposal as it was originally mooted by Congress minister K J George.

According to sources, the Congress state unit was also not in favour of the decision as it could have given more ammunition to the BJP.

Sources also said that BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa was planning to hold a day-long protest on June 14 and 15 against the government’s decision.
