Bengaluru: With the temperature crossing 40 degree Celsius, over 700 VVPATs developed technical snag across Kalaburugi and Bidar Lok Sabha constituencies on Tuesday. These VVPATs were replaced with the new one.
According to the sources in the state election commission, the VVPATs become non-functional once the temperature crosses 40 degree Celsius. Due to the high temperature in Kalaburugi over 500 and in Bidar over 200 VVPATs went kaput.
According to the sources, in both these districts over 900 extra VVPAT machines were reserved assuming such a situation.
“The VVPATs work based on sensor technology. So they must be kept in a cool place, but both in Bidar and Kalaburugi, the temperature is above 40 degree Celsius all day causing a problem,” informed an officer from ECI.
