Bengaluru: The Indian Hajj committee selected 6,701 from the state for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. All the beneficiaries will be selected through a lottery system.
According to minority welfare minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, this number has been finalised based on the quota allotted by the Saudi Arabia government to the entire country.
“The total quota allotted for the country is 1,23,000. Out of this, 6,701 has been allocated for Karnataka. In the state, a total of 13,995 devotees, including 12 children, had applied for the opportunity to go on the Hajj pilgrimage,” the minister informed.
He was speaking at a Hajj event in the Hajj Bhavan of the city.
“A total of 794 men above 70 years of age and 23 women above 45 years of age have applied for the Hajj pilgrimage. They have been selected without the lottery process,” he said.
“Devotees were selected via an online process. So, there is no question of corruption or intervention,” he added.
