Bagalkot: Chandini Nayak, a woman councillor of the BJP has claimed to have suffered a miscarriage after she was assaulted by her own party MLA Siddu Savadi during the Mahalingapura Town Municipal Council president and vice-president elections held recently.
Chandini reportedly was two and half months pregnant when she was allegedly manhandled and dragged by BJP and Congress members, including MLA Savadi during the TMC elections on November 9.
Confirming that she lost the baby, Chandini’s husband Nagesh Nayak said, “After the incident, she was not well and was hospitalized. Upon examination, the doctors found that she had suffered a miscarriage. We were expecting our third child and now we have lost it. This is only because MLA Siddu Savadi and his supporters manhandled her.”
Chandini has two other children- a son and a daughter.
“Even though we filed a complaint with the local police, we have not got justice as the investigation is moving at a snail’s pace. Even the MLA did not pay us a courtesy visit after the incident. We will demand justice from the district administration and police,” Nayak stated.
Commenting on the developments, SP Lokesh Jagalasar said, “We will include the miscarriage suffered by the woman councilor in our investigation. Technical issues have caused a delay in the investigation. We have served a notice to the members concerned and are probing the incident.”
He, however, refused to disclose whether a notice has been served to MLA Savadi.
