Kolar/Bengaluru: Hours after an iPhone manufacturing plant at Narsapura in Kolar was attacked by its employees over salary dues on Saturday, December 12, Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwathnarayan “strongly” condemned the violence and assured that “all workers’ rights are duly protected and all their dues are cleared”.
It can be recalled that on Saturday morning, an iPhone plant run by Taiwanese tech giant Wistron Corporation at Narsapura was vandalised by a majority of nearly 2,000 employees, who were exiting the facility after completing their night shift. The employees reportedly went on a rampage destroying furniture, assembly units and even attempted to set fire to vehicles.
The Narasapura facility is being used to manufacture Apple’s smartphone iPhoneSE, Internet of Things (IOT) products and biotech devices.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, the DCM wrote in a series of tweets, “Strongly condemn the incident of violence at Wistron’s factory in Narasapura, Kolar. It is imperative that nobody takes the law in their own hands. There are appropriate forums to resolve such issues without indulging in this wonton violence.”
