Man arrested for murder of Kannadiga wage worker-1

Kasargod: A Bagalkot resident was arrested by Bekal police in relation to the murder of a Karnataka-origin daily wage worker.

The accused has been identified as Bagalkot resident Umesh Gowda (37).

Though the deceased was a native of Karnataka, his identity has not been ascertained yet. As his name and address is unknown, his body has been kept in Kannur Medical College hospital morgue after post-mortem.

The murder took place as a result of a fight between Umesh Gowda and the worker on April 14. The two involved in the fight were intoxicated after consuming liquor from a nearby shop after reaching Kotikulam from Kasargod that night. During the fight, Umesh stifled the worker which led to his death.

The body was found near Kotikulam mosque in the shop verandah on the morning of April 15.

Police conducted investigation on the case and found nearby CCTV camera footage which captured video of a person pulling a sack after shoving a body inside. Based on the evidence, they arrested the accused.

Umesh Gowda had come to Kotikulam looking for a job. He used to sleep on the shop veranda after his daily wage work where he came to be acquainted with the deceased.
