Kasargod: For the first time in the history of Kasargod Lok Sabha constituency, a transgender has exercised her voting rights, here on Tuesday, April 23.
Isha Kishore voted in the Kanhangad Lok Sabha constituency’s polling booth number 135 of Durga Higher Secondary Government School.
She is also the first transgender to vote in the constituency.
Isha said, “During the previous elections, when I had voted, I was named in the male category. But this time, I am happy to see my name in my true gender.”
“Voting is my right and I have exercised it. With this, I have proven my existence. An able candidate who can understand people’s issues, one who can work towards the wholesome development and protect the people, shall be elected. In this process, the electorate plays a very vital role”, she added.
Speaking on transgender issues, she said, “There are a number of transgender communities in the district but almost everyone do not have the opportunity to prove their existence. This is because of the stereotypical and orthodox mindset still prevalent in the society.”
She opined, “If more number of transgenders participates in the electoral process, then the situation can change for the better.”
Isha has also created her own identity in dance and modeling industry.
