Kasargod: A CPM leader has been arrested by the team investigating of the murder of the Youth Congress activists from Periya, Krupesh and Sharath Lal.
A Peethambaran, a local committee member of the CPM has been arrested on suspicion of plotting the murders. District Superintendent of Police A Srinivas said that Peethambaran provoked the murders. “The accused will be produced before the court tomorrow (February 20),” he said. “The six accused who are already in custody are being interrogated,” added Srinivas.
A few months ago, there was a clash between CPM and BJP, during which Sharath Lal reportedly physically assaulted Peethambaran. According to the investigating team, Peethambaran planned to kill Sharath Lal as a revenge for the assault.
The vehicle used during the murder and its owner have been taken into custody by the police.
The investigating team has received an information stating that three people were directly involved in the murder. It was also revealed during primary investigation that three people could have been involved in the murder.
Several CPM activists who were absconding after the incident have been nabbed by the police and are being interrogated.
Krupesh and Sharath Lal were killed on Sunday when the two were returning home in a motor bike.
