Hubballi: The walkers’ protest over restrictions put on using railway golf grounds for walk, seems to have ended following Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi’s assurance that, the South Western Railway (SWR) authorities had agreed to allow walkers to enter the railway golf grounds without paying entry fee.

After holding talks with SWR authorities, the MP while speaking to media, said he had discussions on the matter of SWR collecting entry fee from the walkers and the protest against this. He said the SWR officials had been informed that the walkers had been using this ground for nearly four decades and it was not correct to collect entry fee from them.

During the discussion, the authorities said the houses of some officials were located close to the grounds and they were facing trouble from some of the walkers. They said free entry was restricted as some walkers were misusing the grounds and damaging it.

He said CCTV cameras would be installed at the grounds using funds from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme.

MLC Basavaraj Horatti said that unruly behaviour by some people had lead to such issues.

People using the grounds for walking had staged a protest opposing the SWR’s decision to restrict entry into the grounds and allow walkers in only for an entry fee. Additional personnel of enforcement forces have been deployed following the protest at the grounds.
