Hubballi: Ramachandrapur Mutt seer Raghaveshwara Bharati has shown interest in taking care of stray cows in cities provided the respective municipal corporations co-operate with the mutt in this regard.

After attending religious programmes here on Friday, Raghaveshwara Bharati seer who is heading a campaign to protect native cow breeds said that his forum was ready to take care of stray cows. The respective municipal corporations need to certify the cows and hand them over, he said. “We are also planning to hold cattle medical camps and create awareness on the ill effects of plastic consumption by the cattle,” he added.

The mutt will launch the ‘Mangala Goyatre’ at Ramashrama in Bengaluru on November 8, which will travel for 80 days covering 10,000 kms and reach 250 cities and 500 towns. Awareness programmes on cow protection will be held in 2,000 schools of the State. The concluding ceremony would be held in Mangaluru on January 28, the seer said.

The campaign which has been named after Mangal Pandey who raised voice against the British over issues related to cows. The campaign to be organized in all districts, would give special focus to include children, women and religious leaders in the noble task of cow protection, he said.

Expressing discontent over certain organisations holding the ‘Chalo Udupi’ event at Udupi recently, he said it was not correct to target the Pejawar seer Vishwesha Teertha in the name of such events. He also objected to the government’s move to appoint an administrator at the Mahabaleshwara temple in Gokarna.
