Hubballi: The Southern Western Railway has, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, installed a public refrigerator at the Hubli Junction to avoid wastage of food. The Hubli Junction is the first station to get such a refrigerator, which has been placed at the entrance.
“This is the first time this kind of measure has been taken by Indian Railways. Hubli Junction is the first station to install public fridge. In this fridge, anyone can keep the extra food, so that instead of being waste it can be used by needy or poor people,” Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO), C Vijay told news agency ANI.
The six-foot-tall fridge has five racks for cooked meals, fruits and vegetables, however, non-vegetarian food is not allowed.
Speaking about the move, a passenger said that it is a “very good initiative” as excess food can be kept here for the needy instead of letting the extra food go to waste.
