Hubballi: A Mutawalli (manager of Wakf property) has found himself in trouble after a video clip of him likening Ganeshpet in Hubballi to ‘Pakistan’ went viral on social media. The Hubballi police have filed a complaint against the Mutawalli.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (North), Hubballi-Dharwad Dawood Khan filed a complaint against him under Section 153(A) of Indian Penal Code.
During a programme organised to mark Id Milad, the Mutawalli Abdul Hameed Khairati allegedly said that he was happy because Ganeshpet locality resembled Pakistan and one need not go elsewhere to see Pakistan.
Police said a case had been registered against Khairati for “promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony”.
Hindutva outfits have sought action against the officer for a reported delay in initiating action despite being present on stage during the function.
