‘Modi more interested in ‘Jallikattu’ than Mahadayi’

Hubballi: Lamenting on the negligent attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards Mahdayi issue, Karnataka Balavikas Academy Chairman Vedavyas Koulagi has said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately responded to the demand of Tamil Nadu to allow ‘Jallikattu’, but he did not interfere in Mahadayi issue even though it was a life and death issue for the people of North Karnataka.”

Modi has not respected the resolution of the Karnataka Legislature which sought his intervention to resolve the inter-State dispute over Mahadayi water sharing through talks, but he responded to just one-day protest over ‘Jallikattu’ in Tamil Nadu, it is quite evident how much he respects issues of other states than of Karnataka, Koulagi said.

Prime Minister Modi failed to properly respond to the all-party delegation from the State which met him with regard to the Mahadayi issue. The farmers were not allowed to meet Mr Modi when he visited Belagavi and the ABVP never staged protest for Mahadayi water. But, BJP MPs are engaged in mere sloganeering and are criticising the State Government, Koulagi said.

He alleged that the Center has failed to respond to the Mahadayi agitation in North Karnataka since last one-and-a-half years, which shows the inaction of BJP MPs from the State. They have sidelined the people’s aspirations by playing petty politics, Koulagi added.
