Hubballi: After several rounds of discussion with Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Karnataka former chief minister B S Yedyurappa regarding the Mahadayi river dispute, BJP National President Amit Shah has almost solved the long-pending row between two states, according to the sources.

According to former chief minister B S Yedyurappa, Amit Shah carried out a discussion with Goa Chief Minister Monohar Parrikar at his residence. The Goa CM also listened to the suggestions of state leaders. So, the final message, which would be sent by Manohar Parrikar will be read-out in the public rally at Hubbali.

B.S Yedyurappa hoped that the Goa Chief Minister will take a stand on Mahadayi row at the earliest. It can be recalled that B.S. Yedyurappa had announced that he would solve Mahadayi, Kalasa Banduri river disputes within a month.

The dispute over the sharing of the water of the Mahadayi or Mandovi river between the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa is at least three decades old if one takes into consideration the fact that negotiations over the issue were initiated by the central government around 1985. The crisis reached a flashpoint in 2002 when the then CM of Karnataka SM Krishna decided to implement a long pending drinking water project by building canal across two tributaries of Mahadayi-Kalasa and Banduri. Though the NDA government of the time cleared the project, it was opposed by the BJP government lead by Manohar Parrikar that was in power in Goa at the time.
