Hubballi: The Samaja Parivartane Samudaya Chief S R Hiremath has alleged that the Congress government which assumed power in the state assuring action against those indulging in illegal mining, had betrayed people.
Speaking to reporters while highlighting failure of Congress, Hiremath said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had assumed office while assuring action against those accused in illegal mining cases but even after four years he had failed to do so which had led to the suspicion that he too might have succumbed to mining mafia.
As it was decided after Supreme Court’s order to cancel some of the mines in C category, the government had not recovered losses caused to the exchequer by the mining firms besides it also had not recovered any money for reclamation and rehabilitation works in the areas damaged by mining, he charged.
Hiremath opined that the state government would have liberated farmers from debts if it had taken action to recover penalty from the mining firms and used it to waive crop loans.
He predicted that Siddaramaiah’s government too could face a similar fate as the previous BJP government in the Assembly elections.
To bring in overall change in the present political system, the SPS along with other like-minded organisations will hold a two-day Yuva Chaitanya Shibira at Ranebennur in Haveri district from June 24.
