Hubballi-Mumbai flight services to be inaugurated on Dec 12

Hubballi: The inauguration ceremony of the new terminal of Hubballi Airport will coincide with the launch of Air India flight services from Hubballi to Mumbai on December 12. At present, Hubballi has flight services only to Bengaluru.

Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar, Member of Parliament from Dharwad Pralhad Joshi said that the runway, which had been extended from 1,674 m to 2,600 m, could handle aircraft of the Airbus A 320 series and three such aircraft could be parked at the apron.

Joshi said after safety inspection from the competent authorities, now the new terminal would handle flight services to Mumbai in addition to the existing flight services to Bengaluru. The upgradation of the Hubballi Airport into an all-weather airport started with the acquisition of 657 acres of land in 2006 when Jagadish Shettar as revenue minister took steps to provide land to Airport Authority of India.

Pralhad Joshi said that he and Shettar took up the issue with Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha and the minister intervened to get a slot at Mumbai Airport for starting flight services from Bengaluru to Mumbai, via Hubballi.

Inauguration

He said that the new terminal would be dedicated to the public, and Mumbai flight services would be launched on December 12. After inaugurating the flight services at Hubballi, Union Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha would travel to Mumbai in the inaugural flight.

Joshi said that flight No AI 507 would leave Bengaluru at noon, reach Hubballi at 12.50 PM and will leave here for Mumbai at 1.25 PM. to reach its destination at 2.30 PM. In the return direction, AI 508 will leave Mumbai airport at 3.25 PM., reach Hubballi at 4.35 PM and then leave here at 6.10 PM to reach Bengaluru at 7 PM.

Replying to a query, Joshi said that there was also demand for flight services to Hyderabad and it might materialise at a later stage. To another query, he said that Hubballi might be included under “Udaan 2” scheme of the union government.
