Hubballi: Hubballi’s Daniel Henry Devanur, who married his love and distant relative, Silvia Noreen, at a church in Pakistan in 2014 has succeeded in getting her to India after relentless efforts.

hubballi pakistan1Daniel, an Indian citizen, ran from pillar to post to bring his bride, a Pakistani national, home.

The marriage concelebrated in Pakistan faced many diplomatic and procedural hitches. Daniel had to get a sponsorship certificate signed by an Indian gazetted officer to facilitate his wife’s India journey. He had to keep the Indian government informed of his marriage in Pakistan, to ease the Visa procedure.

Daniel had also tweeted External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj more than 15 times requesting her to bail him out of the situation. In his efforts to obtain a visitor visa for his wife, Daniel met officials at all levels of governance-from local GP to those in the ministry of external affairs during the last 9 months. All his efforts had gone in vain as each one expressed their inability to come to his rescue but assured of help in responding to Pakistan government’s queries, if any.

Daniel, a resident of Basaveshwarnagar of Hubballi, works with a private cellphone company. His bride Silvia, is a distant relative of his mother, whose family’s roots are in West Bengal and have been staying in Pakistan from the pre-partition period.

Daniel fell in love with Silvia in 2014 and got married to her on June 25, 2016. The marriage was a simple affair as none from Daniel’s side could accompany as they did not possess valid travel documents. He got married in the presence of other relatives at United Pentecostal Church in Lahore and later at a court. Daniel’s family members were eagerly waiting for the new entrant into the family from distant Pakistan.

Finally, the central government came to his aid after 9 months. The government had written a letter to the Indian embassy in Pakistan and kept Pakistan embassy officials in New Delhi informed of the Visa requirement.

Indian embassy official Singh based in Lahore, came to Daniel’s aid and managed to obtain a Visa for his wife. Local leader and former Corporator Raghavendra Ramadurga encouraged Daniel in his efforts.

On April 19, Silvia Noreen landed in Delhi and is currently staying at her relative’s place there. Silvia Noreen , a Pakistani resident is due to arrive in Hubballi during next week to join Daniel’s family, her new home.
