Hubballi: As a run up to transforming the city into a ‘Smart City’, The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) wants to rid the city of litter. The Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL) special purpose vehicle, will be taking the charge of making sure that certain areas are kept clutter free.
In the next phase, funds from the urban local body will be utilised to clean up the twin cities, said sources.
The plan is said to be implemented in certain areas as a pilot project. Tenders have been called for the purpose and the pilot will be launched soon enough. Solid waste management, uninterrupted water and electricity suppy are some of the parameters of the smart city project, according to an HDSCL officer.
Modern technology is expected to play a major role in the maintenance and effective management of cleanliness in the city. To further this objective, 1,836 100L twin frame dustbins, 26 roll-on steel containers and 381 sign boards will be installed all over the city.
Some of the places that will sport the aforementioned utilities will be major circles and juntions such as the Rani Chennama Circle, Jubilee Circle and Court Circle, green and other open spaces like the Unkal Lake, MG Park, Azad Park etc.
Bus terminals will also be under the cleanliness purview, along with hospitals, educational centres, and the administrative areas like various government offices.
The municipality has requested that the public be cooperative in making the cities litter-free by making use of the waste bins and other utilities provided.
