Hubballi: The city police arrested four women in connection with house theft cases in city and recovered 106 gm gold ornaments and 2 kg silver ornaments from their possession.
The arrested, Laxmi Bilana (35), Geetha Kanan (23), Renuka Bepari (23) of Shivashankar Colony in Old Hubballi and Renuka Bilana (34) of Shivaputra Colony in Old Hubballi used to act as rag pickers and mostly targeted locked houses, said Police Commissioner Pandurang Rane.
Speaking to reporters here, the Commissioner said these women were allegedly involved in three house theft cases in the limits of APMC-Navanagar Police Station, two cases in Gokul Road Police Station limits and one case each in Vidyanagar and Old Hubballi Police Station limited.
A special team comprising APMC-Navanagar and CCB police was formed to crack the house theft cases in city and the team members arrested the accused near Gamanagatti. Four more accused are absconding, he said.
The accused, who worked as rag pickers, used to break open the door-lock and make away with the ornaments. They even used hand gloves for the theft, he noted.
In another case, the town police arrested two persons on charges of robbery and recovered 43 gm gold ornaments worth Rs 1.25 Lakh from them.
The arrested have been identified as Gavisiddappa alias Siddappa Kumbar (26) and Manjunath Chalawadi (23) of Bhadrapur in Navalgund.
They had allegedly snatched gold ornaments from one Uday Revankar of Nekar Nagar. The accused were traced with the help of CCTV footages, Rane said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Renuka Sukumar and others were present.
