Hubballi: “Central government which promised to implement M S Swamynathan panel report is betraying farmers by filing affidavit in Supreme court stating that the report cannot be passed,” alleged Maruti Manpade, State president of Karnataka Pranta Raita Sangha.

Addressing media here on Thursday, Manpade said, “On what basis are the state BJP leaders holding Raitha Chaitanya Yatra? Central government is betraying the farmers. The affidavit filed in the Supreme Court must be taken back immediately”.

“Those who have power must resolve Kalasa-Banduri row. Instead, they are pointing fingers at those who are not in the power. Prime Minister Modi has forgotten his responsibility,” he slammed.

“The row should be solved through the Tribunal. In BJP, there are 3 union ministers, 18 MLAs and state opposition has influential leaders. So they all should take responsibility and resolve the issue. They should stop blaming Sonia Gandhi,” Manpade lambasted at BJP.

The recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers headed by noted agriculture scientist M.S. Swaminathan suggested a way out of the deep agrarian crisis which has pushed about 2.56 lakh farmers to commit suicide between 1995 and 2010.

The panel has recommended fixing the support price for the farm produce by adding 50 per cent to the cost of production.
