Hubballi: The students in the city suffered owing to school auto rickshaw and van drivers who went on strike on Friday July 31.
Deputy commissioner Rajendra Cholan visited four schools, KLES MR Sakhare School, Rotary School, Saint Mary’s School and VS Pillay School to address the situation.
Condemning the district administration’s move in implementing the Supreme Court’s directions of ensuring students’ safety, auto and van drivers decided not to ferry students for two days. Cholan rushed to KLES MR Sakhare School in the morning and interacted with students and parents and assured them that the issue would be resolved.
Cholan said that the parents should cooperate with the administration to implement the SC guidelines and ensure safety of children. “We have received complaints that drivers are charging them indiscriminately. According to the existing directions, they should collect Rs 250-300 per month, per child from parents. However, we’ll fix the charges and issue a notification,” he said.
He added that there will be a campaign to convince auto and van drivers about following the guidelines.
DDPI SB Kodli, RTO Purushottam and other officials were also present during the visit.
