Hubballi/Kodagu: Barely a few days after fire incidents at Bandipur and Nagarhole national parks razed down a large portion of the forest area, two more major fires were reported in Kappatagudda in Gadag and Kallur hill forest area in Kodagu districts on Friday.
Traffic on Kushalnagar-Madikeri Road was blocked thereby affecting travel towards Kodagu and Kerala owing to the intensity of the fire that broke out in the district around noon. Forest department officials and fire brigades were immediately pressed into action to contain the fire.
Meanwhile, in Kappatagudda nearly 300 acres of forest land is estimated to be damaged in the fire believed to be set by some miscreants. Over 200 firefighting personnel are involved in the operations that began on Friday night to contain the fire from spreading further. Kappathagudda has been in the news recently after people staged protests against the state government’s move to cut down trees in the forest for mining as the area contains rich minerals.
