As we age, the need to keep your brain active grows. When you’ve spent your life working, your brain has been stimulated by the tasks that your job demanded. However, once you retire your brain then doesn’t have the same use as it did before. So therefore, keeping your mind active will help to keep your brain functioning as before. We will now take a look at some of the ways in which you can keep your brain active as you age.
1. Mind training apps
It is very easy to download an application that helps your brain to function. For example, Sudoku. This is a number-based game that you have to solve byfollowing certain rules. The type of mind you had before will affect the level at which you play Sudoku. There are also apps available that help with your memory, attention and cognitive skills. These apps will make you memorise a sequence of events or a specific pattern which will help you to train your brain to retain memory.
2. Puzzles and Crafts
Apart from going online, there are a great number of puzzles and crafts that you can do to keep your mind working. Take for example crafts. To begin with make sure you are fully stocked with stationery and have items such as pens, pencils, a Singapore rubber stamp, glue and other crafting materials as these will give you the opportunity to construct a piece of artwork that can be completed over a number of weeks. This will keep your brain regularly active over a longer period of time. The same can be said for jigsaw puzzles. Start with simple puzzles to get your brain used to completing puzzles and slowly move on to more complicated puzzles as you get better at doing them.
3. Plan a project
As you get older you may not want to take on a large project but why not take on smaller ones? You could design a logo and visit jasa desain grafis for inspiration or you could take up modelling and look at Airfix for ideas. These kinds of projects will allow your brain to have to concentrate for a number of days/weeks, giving your brain the exercise it requires to remain healthy.
4. Write a book
Another way that you could keep your brain active is by writing a book or autobiography. It doesn’t have to be something that you want to have published, it could simply be a way to dump your thoughts onto paper so that you are making your brain think. Once you have finished you could look at creating some illustrations for your work. If drawing is not your strong point then perhaps look at joining a local art class to improve or brush up on your art skills.
5. Take a class
If there’s something that you’ve always wanted to take part in or learn more about then consider joining a class. Take for example photography. Look for local classes as not only will you develop a new skill, you will also have the opportunity to meet new people.
