Haveri: The transgenders along with the members of several associations, agitated against the brutal rape and murder of a minor girl in Vijayapura on January 1.
The protest march kickstarted from the Municipal Ground here in Haveri and passed through the major roads of the city. The protesters also blocked the road in Hosamani Siddappa circle.
Transgenders who joined other activists demanded capital punishment for the culprits. They also demanded a compensation of Rs 25 Lakh and a government job for the kin of the victim.
It may be recalled that on December 20, a 14-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Vijayapura city. The police have detained four persons who are suspected to be involved in the alleged brutal gang rape and killing of the girl. Three more accused are on the run.
The state government also has ordered a CID probe into the horrific gang rape of the minor girl.
