Haveri: A seven-year-old girl was brutally murdered after being sexually assaulted in the Kursapura village of the Shigganvi taluk in Haveri. The incident has sent shock waves across the state.
The accused, Shettappa Basappa Vaddara, a resident of Kurudakeri in Hubballi city, was arrested by police shortly after the gruesome crime.
Reportedly, the incident occurred on Monday, when the parents of the girl left her to sleep in a neighbour’s house while they went to attend an engagement ceremony. This is when the accused allegedly kidnapped the girl, took her to a nearby vacant site and sexually assaulted her, murdering her moments later.
The girl’s body later was found inside a toilet and the incident led to tension across the Haveri district on Tuesday. By evening, the police had arrested the accused.
A case has been registered under the POCSO act against the Shettappa.
