Haveri: Preliminary investigations into the late night accident involving Union Minister Ananthkumar Hegde’s covoy has ruled out “deliberate attempt” to kill him.

Disclosing the details, Superitendant of Police K Parashuram said the accident took place after the driver of the truck took a sudden turn and there is no evidence to suggest “deliberate attempt” on Hegde’s life.

Truck driver Nasir Ahmed Mohsin, a resident of N R Pura in Chikkamagalur district was driving the truck laden with grains when the accident occurred. In his confession before the police, Mohsin admitted that mobile conversation while driving led to the mishap.

Further investigations are in progress, SP said.

Posting pictures and video of the accident on Twitter, Hegde had alleged threat to his life, claiming that he just narrowly escaped a “deliberate attempt” made on his life.

The accident took place on April 17 midnight when a truck rammed into the car in Hegde’s convoy, damaging the vehicle and fracturing the occupant’s shoulder. Hegde, who was travelling in another vehicle, just ahead of the car that met with the accident managed to escape unhurt.
