Excise Minister to take action against illegal sale of liquor

Haveri: Excise and Muzrai Minister Manohar Tahasildar on Saturday said that the state government will constitute a special team for preventing illegal sale of liquor in the districts bordering Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Goa.

Speaking to reporters minister said that his department had received complaints of illegal sale of liquor in the border districts.

“Such sales have been eating into the State’s revenue. Hence, a special team will be formed and checkposts will be set up in border districts to prevent illicit sale of liquor,” the minister said.

He further added that the Excise department was expected to generate a revenue of Rs 15,200 crore this fiscal of which 74 pc had already been earned.

“CCTV cameras will be installed in the temples under the control of Muzrai department to prevent theft. There are a total of 34,543 temples under Muzrai department in the State and they have been classified into ‘A’ ‘B’ and ‘C’ categories depending on the income they generate per year. CCTV cameras would be installed in ‘C’ category temples (with low income) at government cost,” he added.
