Delay in release of funds to college: BTech students study under metal roofs

Haveri: A delay in the release of aid to the College of Horticulture Engineering and Food Technology by the Government of Karnataka, has forced the students to attend classes in temporary classrooms made of metal sheets.

The Bagalkote Horticultural Sciences University had started a Horticultural BTech course in Devihosoor back in 2016 and students were admitted through CET exams. However, since the basic facilities were not available, the classes were conducted at the Bagalkote Horticultural University campus.

In April of 2019, the classes were moved to Devihosoor even though the basic facilities were still not available forcing the students to attend classes in the horticultural research centre building in Devihosoor till the college building was ready. As many as 62 students have been studying in the college since 2016.

As the college building is non-existent, examinations were conducted in metal sheet sheds and there was no security or facility for lady students hostels. For the boys, however, a cowshed was converted into a hostel.

This college was announced when Siddarammaiha was the Chief Minister in 2014. A proposal of 36 crores was submitted to the government for constructing the college building in the allotted 36 acres of land, but the government has approved only 10 crores of which they have released only five crores so far. Therefore, the construction of the college building has not yet begun.

The local representatives were also being blamed for their neglect of the situation.
