Hassan: The SSLC topper from Hassan now has a tough task on hand. As many private colleges in Hassan and other districts have offered a free seat besides financial benefits to J S Swathi, who became the second highest scorer in SSLC, she has a tough task of selecting a college for further studies.
Daughter of a daily-wage worker and student of CKS Girls’ High School in Hassan, Swathi, created history by securing 624 out of 625.
Swathi soon after getting results, started receiving calls from many private colleges in Hassan, Bengaluru and Chitradurga with an offer of a free seat and financial assistance.
Satish Kumar, Swathi’s cousin, told The Hindu , “Almost all private colleges in Hassan called us and offered a seat. A college in Bengaluru and one in Chitradurga also called us. The SRS PU College in Chitradurga offered a free seat, besides a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, appreciating her achievement in the SSLC. College authorities told us that they would bear the first year’s fee if when she gets into either medical or engineering course after PU.”
However, Satish Kumar added, “It is her wish. We are not putting pressure on her to secure a rank in PU too. We want her to study in a decent college and secure good marks enough to get into a professional course.”
