Sandalwood poacher nabbed after two-month search operation, others still on run

Belur: A sandalwood poacher who was on the run from forest officials was nabbed here on Tuesday, March 5.

The arrested individual, Ravi (32) a resident of Kyathanakere village had allegedly cut down a number of sandalwood trees along with his associates.

According to the officials, he was known for this illegal activity. About two months ago, he had attempted to bring down a sandalwood tree in a forest area of Sunkenahalli village. After receiving a tip off, the forest officials raided the spot, but the poachers escaped. The forest officials then continued the search operation and obtained crucial information about his whereabouts. The officials then raided Ravi’s house and arrested him.

The raid was conducted by Reserve Forest Officer Mariswamy, staff Subhash Chandra, Santhosh Kumar, Jayanna and Prakash.

The hunt is still on for Ravi’s associates.
