Hassan: The 52 bonded labourers who were rescued six days ago, were rehabilitated at the Morarji Desai school in Attavara-Hosalli of the Dudda hobli and left for their native places. The district administration provided them with temporary relief.
These 52 labourers, including 17 women, were rescued six days ago after one of them escaped from the plantation. He informed the Dudda police about the situation after which the plantation was raided and the labourers rescued.
According to the authorities, these bonded labourers were mostly from the drought-hit districts of the state including Raichur, Bidar, Kalaburugi, Mandya etc. Many are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as well.
On Saturday, BJP national president Amith Shah raised the issue through a tweet stating that the JDS-Congress coalition is busy in power-sharing while people from the disadvantaged communities are exploited.
