Channarayapattana: The second of the century and the 88th Mahamasthakabhiskeka of the Bhagavan Bahubali statue of Shravanabelagola, began on the afternoon of February 17 with the Jalabhisheka (anointment of water).
Jain seers, Acharyas and dignitaries from various parts of the country participated in the Jalabhisheka which symbolises the formal beginning of the Mahabhishekam. Thousands of devotees who arrived in advance raised slogans like “Bhagavan Bahubali Ki Jai.” The first Jalabhisheka was done by Vardhaman Sagar Muni, the senior most Jain seer.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also participated in the Jalabhisheka. A special Doli was kept ready for the chief minister.
