Kannada Sahitya sammelan: a treasure trove for book lovers

Hassan: Over 500 book stalls have been put up at the 81th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held here at the Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar auditorium in Shravanabelagola which was decked up for the three-day literary festival.

The books are priced  as low as Rs 10 in a bid to encourage reading. Several literature lovers and students stood in long queues to buy books and glance around the book stores.

Books written by Bendre, Kuvempu, Poornachandra, Byrappa, Siddalingaiah and so on were displayed in the book stores.

Interestingly in the memory of R K Laxman Cartoonist who passed away recently, the Karnataka Vyangya Chitrakara Sanga placed a stall with his cartoons and caricatures. The cartoons of all politicians, celebrities and several others featuring social messages were on display.

Speaking to Newskarnataka, M V Shivram cartoonist, said that the display was to pay tribute to the legend R K Laxman and inform the public about the importance of caricatures.

Book lover, Subramanya expressed opinion thus: “it was my 1st visit to Kannada Sammelan,and as I was in search of few rare books, I came here and thankfully I have found these”.
