HM Revanna announces Rs 3 lac compensation to KSRTC bus mishap victims’ kin

Hassan: Transport minister H M Revanna has announced Rs 3 lakh compensation to the kin of victims of deadly accident involving KSRTC Airavata bus here on January 13 in Hassan.

Speaking to reporters, Revanna expressed shock over the incident and announced Rs 3 lakh compensation to kin of each victims killed in the mishap. He also assured that the government would bear the medical expenses of those injured in the accident.

It may be recalled that seven persons were killed after KSRTC Airavata Bus fell off a bridge near Karekere on National Highway 75 in Hassan taluk around 3.30 am on Saturday. The bus was heading to Dharmastala from Bengaluru. Superintendent of Police R.K.Shahapurwad has said that seven were dead in the accident.

Five have been identified as Diana (22) from Mangaluru, Gangadhar N. (30) from Bengaluru and Bijo (25) from Belthangadi, besides the bus driver Lakshman and conductor Shivappa Chalavadi. The identity of a woman and a man are to be ascertained. Two passengers who have been seriously injured are being treated in a private hospital in Hassan.
