Hassan: A farmer lost his life attempting to extinguish fire in his field in Ganjigere taluk of the district on the night of March 10.
The deceased has been identified as Puttaswamy Gowda, aged 55. On finding fire raging through his field, farmer Puttaswamy Gowda rushed to douse it but unfortunately got trapped and lost his life.
It may be recalled, a forest department official too had lost his life in a similar incident in one of the the state’s forest reserves recently. In the other major fire accident in Bellary, timber logs valued at crores were burnt to ashes in a saw mill owned by Jamaluddin. Four fire tenders were seen trying to douse the fire and the losses are expected to cross Rs 1.5 Crore.
