CRPF Jawan Chandra laid to rest with state honours

Arkalgud: Chandra H.S., 29, who died in an ambush by Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday was laid to rest with full state honours in his native village on March 15.

Chandra, a native of Haraduru in Arkalgud taluk was among the nine CRPF men killed in the incident.

The body of the deceased Jawan was received at the district border in the morning by district in charge minister A Manju accompanied by senior district administration officials.

Minister Manju accompanied by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rohini Sindhuri paid their last respects to the deceased Jawan at the Hassan district hospital.

The mortal remains were kept at DC office premises in Hassan based on the request of family members to enable the public to pay their last respects. Minister accompanied by district administration officials offered floral tributes to Chandra here.

The mortal remains were then carried in an open CRPF vehicle to Taluk office in Arkalgud , where thousands gathered to pay their last respects. Subsequently the body was taken to the soldier’s native village

As the body arrived at the village, a large number of residents accompanied by several others from neighbouring villages raised slogans in praise of the soldier. The parents, wife, family members were inconsolable as the mortal remains reached their village.

Few rounds of bullets were fired in the air and the police band played the national anthem before the final rites.

Destiny ruled otherwise

Jawan Chandra had left his village on March 11 after the baby shower of his wife, who is seven months pregnant.

Chandra, who had joined the CRPF five years ago, is survived by his wife, Pruthvi, parents Swamy Gowda and Kalamma, two brothers, and two sisters. Chandra was in Haradoor from February 17 and March 11. He reported for duty on Tuesday, March 13th morning and died in the ambush a couple of hours later.

DC Sindhri consoles family

Meanwhile, DC Rohini Sindhuri consoled wife and the family members and assured of fair compensation to Chandra’s family. She asked wife Pruthvi to mind her health and assured of visiting the family after the completion of rituals to ensure quick disposal of compensation.
