Hassan: Former prime minister and JDS Supremo HD Devegowda has said that he may have turned 87, but his zeal and enthusiasm has not gone down a bit, owing to which he pays no heed to any criticism.

Claiming that he is determined to fortify the JDS party, HDD said that he will go to the people and build the party from the grassroots again.

Speaking to reporters in Hassan, on Sunday, he said that someone would walk out of the party, while someone else will walk into the party. This episode of entry and exit doesn’t bother him much.

He was commenting on the reports that senior JDS leader and former minister GT Devegowda is going to quit the JDS and join the BJP.

“He was in BJP, he came to us and became a minister too. Now he is likely to join the BJP,” said HDD.

Recalling that the BJP had been ridiculing the JDS for its attempts to fortify the party, Gowda said that his son HD Kumaraswamy may have had talks with political strategist Prashanth Kishore, but at 87, he has voluntarily decided to tour the state and built the party all over again.

“In 1989, I was all alone. I only had BL Shankar, YSV Datta and VS Ugrappa beside me. If I could build the party then, today I have many leaders to bank on like Bandeppa Kashempura, Basavaraj Horatti, Ramaswamy, Kumaraswamy and others. I am confident of re-building the party,” he said adding that over the last several decade of his public life, struggle has become a part of him and he will continue to fight for the cause of the people.
