Kalaburagi: District Police Commissioner M N Nagaraj on Wednesday, December 18, said that no bundh would be allowed in the Kalaburgi district on Thursday as there are recruitment exams for various departments and also to ensure law and order in the region.

“As there are recruitment exams, and in order to maintain law and order in the city, no bundh will be allowed,” he informed.

It can be noted that across the country, a nation-wide bundh has been called in protest of the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 and the NRC. The CAA has sparked widespread debate and violent protests even before it was passed into law by President Ram Nath Kovind recently.

The CAA grants citizenship to persecuted religious minorities who fled from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh and arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

Recent reports, however, suggest that the Central Government, taking cognizance of the violent opposition across the country, is considering a way to include Muslims in the CAA.
