Kalaburagi: Giving a break to textbooks and chalks, guest lecturers working in government first grade colleges in Kalaburagi district staged a unique protest here on Tuesday by polishing shoes and chappals to draw the attention of the government towards their woes.
They have been staging an indefinite dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here for the past one week, demanding regularisation of services and several other demands.
In a memorandum addressed to Higher Education Minister T.B. Jayachandra, they sought setting up of a high- level committee to finalise the modalities for the purpose. The memorandum said that the guest lecturers should be paid a monthly remuneration of Rs. 25,000 for the entire year without any break till the committee submits its report and the government takes a decision on its recommendations.
They demanded that women guest lecturers be provided three months maternity leave with full salary and all the guest lecturers be provided 12 days of casual leave in a year.
