Kalaburgi: Former chief secretary Rathna Prabha, who joined the BJP recently, has pledged her support to the independent candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency Sumalatha, through a video call.
Prabha reportedly placed a call to Sumalatha during an organised discussion on the topic ‘Women’s role in the development of Hyderabad-Karnataka‘ held in the city.
In the video call, Prabha reportedly told Sumalatha that she and the women of the Hyderabad-Karnataka area would support her in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, Sumalatha, wife of late Congress minister M H Ambaressh, will be contesting against JDS-Congress alliance candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and MLA Anita Kumaraswamy.
While the BJP has already decided to back Sumalatha in the elections and the Congress has discouraged its workers from supporting her, certain sections of the Congress party are still reportedly loyal to her leading to clashes between them and the local JDS workers.
Mandya will go to polls on April 18 in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
