Gadag: Women of the Muslim community in Gadag district’s Srinagar, performed pooja at Hanuman temple, praying to the deity for good rains, this year. The pooja which took place on Saturday, June 8, came to light after the photos of the women performing pooja went viral on social media.

People of Gadag usually, face water problems in the summer. The residents of Rona taluk are known to follow certain traditions and perform poojas and rituals to please deities, with a belief of getting good rains. Last Saturday, the residents of Srinagar performed a pooja in the town’s Maruti temple, praying for good rains and crops. Even Muslim women joined the devotees in performing the pooja.

Some of the muslim devotees say that there has not been proper rains in the past couple of years and that they believe that if the people of all the communities live in harmony, the Gods will be pleased and they will receive good rains. “In the past the people of all the community here were living in harmony but things are not the same now. So we have come forward to perform pooja in Maruti temple. God is one, temple and mosques are just mediums of worship”, says one of the Muslim devotees.

“When Muslim women came to us and expressed their wish to perform pooja in Maruti temple, we were pleased and allowed them to join us in the pooja. The society needs this kind of unity,” say the Hindu residents.
