College is fun – if you are willing to work at it

Its time for College, to spread your wings, to fulfill your potential, to self actualize and most of all to be happy. But you are not yet there, you are not ready. But you want to be. Right? So what do you need to get there? Here are a few pointers:

  •  A college of your choice
  •  A Positive mind
  •  Educators (lecturers/professors) who can embrace your mind-sets and deliver your course content to you in 3D
  •  Friends who know what they are doing
  •  Supportive parents and siblings

Let’s assume you have found a college of your choice, with teachers that can match your aptitude, yet you are unhappy. Look inside and do the following:

1.    Start Positive, stay positive:
Always begin with enthusiasm and positivity about yourself everytime you enter your college premises, no matter what had happened the previous day – If It hasn’t killed you, it has made you stronger. The present is a gift, grab it with both hands.

2.    Treat College as an Investment:
Treat your college fees as your INVESTMENT for your future; do not treat it like an EXPENSE and remember:  the Return on Investment, no matter what that might be, defies mathematical calculation…
Make the best use of every single facility provided by your college –  the laboratories, libraries, gardens, portraits, knowledge banks, gymnasiums, sports stadia etc.  Do not  create islands of regret.

3.    Be consistently curious:

Ask Questions!!! It ‘s the best way to learn about anything or anybody. Learn not only from your lecturers, but from your peers, classmates, technicians, librarians, principal, and everyone who you meet. There is so much to learn.

4.    Make friends:
It is not necessary that everyone needs enemies or strangers in their class. Remember, we have created our own enemies for silly reasons, and strangers because we have ignored them. Friendship starts with warmth- eye-contact- smile. Just do it, and see your world change for good!!  How much more happier you will be…

5.    Dump your ego:
Learn the three golden words – Sorry, Please, Thank you
Golden words indeed, Sorry, Please, thank you – they will open up the world to you.  Use Humility and Honesty in your dealings with your peers, teachers and all those around you and you will see the difference. But you must first dump your ego in order to do that.
When you are in college, it is but natural to be punished, admonished and penalized for various reasons. Sometimes, you deserve it and sometimes, not. So what do you  do? Hold a grudge against the one who has punished you?  Not at all. Remember, that this word “SORRY” is a very intense word. It can change peoples’ prospective towards you, and make them respect you more. Irrespective of whether you are actually guilty or not, wait until the respective lecturer seats at his/her cabin, start with a SORRY, and then narrate what exactly happened then. Most students make the mistake of confronting the person and being arrogant when wrongly caught. It WILL NOT solve your problem. It will only FUEL THE FIRE.

It’s the same with the other two words – Please and thank you – they will get you what  you need, time and again.

6.    Manage your time well:
Maintain a good schedule for yourself- manage your time- prioritize your academic requirements like assignments, record work, seminars, activity etc and try to finish them as early as you can. It will not only help you cope with pressures of finishing the work on time but provide you with a lot of time to pursue your other interests and activities.

7.    Seize the initiative:
Try to develop a  good relationship  with your parents, siblings, friends and well- wishers  by communicating openly and honestly with them. No matter what kind of equation you have had in your past, you can change things if you take YOUR people positively. Don’t float with the tide. Buck it.  Decide what you want to do and go after it. Make things happen!!! and your happiness will double when you look at the mirror tomorrow morning.

I Wish each one of you, scholars,  a wonderful and successful college life
