Madhya Pradesh: Known for utter lawlessness alongside Bhind district in dacoit infested Chambal region, Morena has once again hit the headlines after district collector suspended gun licences of 34 farmers who allegedly intimidated bank employees over recovery of loans.
Primarily a status symbol in Chambal region, brandishing weapons is a common practice and locals did not lag behind in intimidating their hapless opponents more than often.

Following similar complaints from the officers of Central Co-operative Bank Morena, the collector Vinod Sharma suspended licences of 34 guns issued to local farmers. The DM also ordered the lincesees to deposit their firearms within next three working days.

Sharma in his order sternly made it clear that the arms registered on suspended licences would be deposited with district administration, if the arms holders do not turn up for volunteer deposit of their weapons.

The chief executive officer of the bank Arastu Prabhakar had presented an application to the district collector in this regard. Prabhakar in his complaint had mentioned that farmers don not prepay their loans and as employees of co-operative banks and societies approach them for recovery, they (farmers) did not lag behind in brandishing their firearms for intimidating them.
