Arkansas man attacked by deer after assuming it had been killed

Arkansas: This hunter left the cover of his deer stand to check if the deer he had just shot was dead, only it wasn’t.

Thomas Alexander (66) died in Arkansas, US, on Tuesday, October 22 evening, when the deer he had shot on a hunt, got up and gored him several times.

After shooting it with a muzzleloader, Alexander got out of his deer-stand to check it out when it attacked him. He managed to call his wife who alerted emergency services, and on-arrival, the ERP called out for an air-evacuation.

Unfortunately, Alexander stopped breathing just as he was being lifted onto the rescue helicopter, and after CPR efforts failed, he was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead-on-arrival.

While several puncture wounds were reported, wildlife officers have not ruled out the possibility that any other medical condition Alexander might have had could have aggravated his death.

The injured animal that killed Alexander has not been found, as per Keith Stevens of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. Keith informed the media that K-9 dogs have been brought in to search for the deer, according to a report by USA Today.

Keith Stevens also told the media that the incident was “one of the stranger things” he had come across over the past 20 years on the job.
