Travel tales voiced out in mother tongue

Kannada.travel takes you to a world of inspirational stories and travelogues in the vernacular language, in a period when English content reigns over natives. According to studies, internet consumption is increasing consistently in tier 2 and 3 cities. It is not mandatory for all to have a good knowledge of the English language. In light of this, regional content is gaining popularity on digital media platforms.

Kannada.travel is the brainchild of two people who started a travel website to make its content accessible to all Kannadigas. Speaking to NewsKarnataka Sunil Patil, co-founder said that “It is a platform where we concentrate on two things: vernacular content and travelogues. We focus on people-inspiring stories. So, instead of sharing ten places, you must visit in Goa, we focus on stories about a housewife who travels for the first time or an elderly couple who began travelling in their late 70s.”

The surge in the creation and circulation of regional content has led to increased content consumption. “Everyone feels more at ease when they speak in their native language. People, on the other hand, prefer to read and write in English. This indeed will pose a problem. Rajesh Shetty, the company’s co-founder, and I are convinced that if English continues to dominate over other languages, the next generation will forget their mother tongue,” Sunil added.

When asked about the company’s plans for the future Sunil added that the website content will soon be available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Bengali languages. He stated that the regional language is more than just a language used at home. It’s more of an emotion!

“Travel content connects people all over the world and that when it is created in a regional language, it has a much greater effect than any other language. Any Kannadiga or individual with an internet connection can virtually travel the world through the vernacular content that the website promotes. There will be many travel restrictions in the future as a result of Covid, and travelling can become more expensive,” said Sunil.

The company’ goal is to inspire the next generation to write content in their native language.

The company has been receiving a lot of positive feedback from Kannadigas all over the world. When asked about the team Sunil said that, “The best thing about the company is that Rajesh, co-founder, has a vast knowledge of language and literature. I have been a full-time traveller. The group of sixteen includes students as well as enthusiastic travellers with extensive experience in this area.”

The travel industry has a market potential of 7.7% of our GDP. Several countries depend solely on tourism to stay afloat. Sunil predicts that once the Covid restrictions are lifted, the travel industry will certainly boom. He is also optimistic that the company will be able to completely fulfil the readers’ needs then.
