Nine out of ten people like Chocolate. The tenth always lies! Thus, goes a Chocolatey Meme! And it is true. Isn’t it?

I often recall my birthdays when I was younger. I would come home from school along with my friends to a fantastic treat – delicious food and savouries and of course Chocolate. My favourite always. For me there is no WE in chocolate! It is mankind’s most famous invention, and a man’s – and a woman’s, best friend, and partner in diet crime!

Ok, so chocolates excite me and you. And I watched ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ a 2005 musical fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and written by John August, based on the 1964 British novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. The storyline follows Charlie as he wins a contest along with four other children and is led by Wonka on a tour of his chocolate factory. And I went along with him from my armchair… But I was not satisfied. How can I be?!

I love chocolate in any form – pure, in cakes, toppings on my milk shake and sometimes on my toast and pizza too – but handcrafted chocolates – oh they are at a different level altogether! And Supriz Supriz! Supriz Gourmet Chocolates does just that. Handcrafted chocolates for you and me!

Surpriz! Gourmet Chocolates is not just another brand of chocolates; it is a rush of excitement that makes you drool.

The journey began in Bengaluru on World Chocolate Day, July 7.

The brand experience is led by its Founders Madhuranath and Kshama Bharadwaj. While the former is the CEO, the latter is the COO. Within 18 days, its sales touched the chocolatey figure of Rs: 100,000. “Right after the 18th day of business, we got an order of worth INR 47,000 just in one day,” said Madhuranath

The Chocolate Revolution of 2020

“We want India to aspire for our Namma Bengaluru Truffles from now on – not Belgian truffles,” says Madhuranath… “There are various gourmet chocolate makers, catering to a 1% exclusive population of the Chocolate market which is either very dark chocolates or flavoured chocolates. Those really do not appeal to many. Our goal is to provide high-quality chocolates that the market is not just going to consume, but love. Specifically, to provide a WOW factor when somebody receives the gift of our Chocolate”

Everybody enjoys a piece of chocolate. But the burst of flavours’ that a handcrafted gourmet truffle provides melts away my tongue. The duo is set on not only just delivering high-quality chocolates, but also catering to the pluralistic Indian palate. With a little bit of sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, and crunchy tasters in the soft, creamy canters of their dark chocolate truffles, you cannot eat just one! Do not be surprized by an empty box soon after its opened!

The flavours – they are all boxed in!

The flavours fruits, berries, spices, and nuts. Each box of Assorted Truffles contains 12 truffles and 6 exclusive flavours; Citrus Blast – Persian Lemon in a soft creamy truffle; Berrylicious – Cranberry in a dark chocolate truffle; Chunky Nuts – Diced almonds in soft creamy dark chocolate; Fruity Zest – Delicious Apricots in a dark creamy centre; Nutter Butter – Ghee roasted almonds in a creamy dark chocolate centre; and the showstopper Tangy Chili – A unique blend of chilli and berry! Surpriz! has designed them all specifically for the discerning Indian Palate. “Tangy Chilli is a combination of spiciness and sweetness at once. It has always been our number one, out of all the other flavours. We are incredibly happy with the feedback given by our customers so far. Our aim is not just to hit the 1 or 2 % of the market. Our aim is for 99% of Indians to buy them, to make it the most loved chocolate brand in India”, says Madhuranath.

And now they are experimenting with new flavours’! Be patient. The best is yet to come.

It is Madhuranath and Bharadwaj who decide and design the best for us – after many experiments of course – and then partner with a chocolate factory to make them for us. Of course, like Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, the Chocolate factory they partner with, has all the required certifications, and maintains the highest standards of ingredients and hygiene. “We design the recipe, supply the raw materials to them, and they produce it, and pack the final product. “We are currently exploring natural ingredients such as paan, to add on to the desserts after a meal and fusion of the Indian Sweet and Swiss Dark Chocolate flavours for the Indian palate,” said Madhuranath.

Exchange of Art!

Happiness lies in the chocolate no doubt, but art tingles where the Chocolate cant reach! Surpriz! the company also practices the art of gifting – providing a platform that encourages and provides an opportunity for amateur and hobby artists to showcase their talent. The customer could buy the art – say a greeting card – and the artists get the monetary value. “There are very few good options for chocolate gifting. That is a gap that we are trying to fill. With fresh chocolates that melt in the mouth, chocolates should have flavours’ that are natural.”

“It can be a student, a homemaker, or an artist who wants to promote their passion. We just want to support them. We have created a platform where each artist has an art store or an art gallery on our website, where they control and manage the price, etc.”

The customer can choose from a variety. The art is printed on a special textured paper where the name of the artist and the art gallery is mentioned. On the rear, lies the message from the sender to his/her loved one. The company has sold 12 cards so far and is encouraging several artists with their work. “Not just another greeting card, but a unique card out that’s handmade.”

The gift box also contains a bookmark that talks about an unsung hero of India and a seed paper that contains plant seeds. The duo has made sure to use the most sustainable means of packaging that can be reused in a common household.

Tangy Chilli for you? All wrapped up and personalized. That would be a Surpriz wouldn’t it?
